If you are looking for a FREE, premium, alternative to Audacity and you own a Behringer Uphoria interface you need to check out Tracktion 7.
Tracktion 7 can handle midi input through midi controllers or you can use the piano roll to control virtual instruments. You can add vst effects to your tracks and comes with some decent effects. However there are few effects included and they do not have a lot of presets in each effect. The good news is that you can easily build a free VST effects library by searching around the net or even downloading the vst effects that Behringer has bunndled on their website for free.
Tracktion 7 can be used by beat creators to create some great beats with professional quality output settings. You just need to either build a library of drum samples into a sampler or download some VST drum machine VSTs. You can find all of this for free on the internet. Just search “Free Drum Machine VST”.
Tracktion 7 is extremely easy to setup and get recording right away. Just choose your input on the track that you want to record to, arm it for recording and then hit the record button in the transport controls.
All in all Tracktion 7 is a very capable DAW and it’s absolutely free if you own a Behringer Uphoria interface (and some other Behringer and Mackie interfaces). If you are looking to get started into recording and don’t want to spend a lot of money then this is a no brainer.
